hyperTracker User Manual
The Quick Start Documentation Guide
We've designed hyperTracker with ease-of-use in mind, whilst at the same time remaining flexible and powerful enough to track even the most comprehensive marketing campaigns. This guide will teach you how to set up new campaigns and successfully track them using our online control panel.
This guide assumes you have already setup a hyperTracker account. OK, let's get down to business...
hyperTracker is an Internet marketing tracking tool that allows you to quickly and easily see how a particular marketing campaign is progressing. By looking at the statistics that our system analyzes, you'll immediately see:
* The effectiveness of any Internet marketing campaign. You can track any URL on the Internet. It will automatically count the number of unique visitors as well as many other vital marketing information.
* Determine whether a particular campaign was worth the money you spent on it by tracking the ROI (Return on Investment) and evaluating the amount of sales that were the result of a particular campaign.
It will save you mounds of time, effort and money by crunching the numbers for you. At a glance, you'll be able to see which campaigns are pulling the gold and which are wasteful, expensive mistakes.
Some "Pre-Start" Notes
Before you start a new campaign, allow me to clear up some misconceptions about what our system does and doesn't do.
hyperTracker is a sophisticated tracking tool. It will track website URLs (web addresses starting with http:// or https://) and will determine the effectiveness of a particular advertising campaign that was used to promote that URL.
It won't, however, track email addresses nor will it provide your website with any form of promotion. It's simply a powerful third-party website tracking tool.
This is what would happen with a typical Internet marketing campaign:
hyperTracker provides the "middle man" between the advertising and your website. It's a third-party automated online tool that intercepts your marketing model by standing in the middle of the two, tracking every visitor that passes through. The standard marketing model wouldn't really determine the effectiveness of any campaign because your current tracking system or website logs can only tell you the overall visitor count or overall sales statistics.
So what happens if you get more than one stream of traffic at once? How will you know which campaign generated sales and which generated just worthless traffic hits, resulting in less profits? hyperTracker tells you all this information by doing the following:
It not only tracks unique hits but also what sale when generated by a particular campaign. All you need to do is insert a special bit of HTML code into your order confirmation page that will trigger our tracking system.
As this information is gathered, our system calculates the statistics in real time.
The Quick Start Guide -
How To Setup And Track Your Online Campaigns
We've made this as painless as possible. The professional version of hyperTracker allows you to analyze an unlimited amount of campaigns. To setup a new campaign and put the powerful hyperTracker to use, simply follow these easy steps:
Step 1: Setting Up A New Campaign
Click on the "Campaigns" button and then click "Create a New Campaign". A form will be presented to you asking for various details. All of the boxes to fill in are labeled with a description to provide an understanding of what details are required for each. Complete it per the on-screen instructions then click the "Create new campaign" button at the bottom of the page.
You'll be given a special tracking URL. The professional version allows you to setup an unlimited number of campaigns for each promotional escapade you embark on. For example, let's say you were advertising in "Bob's Wonderful Ezine" priced at $145 tracking the response to your website at yourdomain.com which sells a product for $99.
Alternatively, download ht.php or ht.pl script from the "Integration | Web Addresses" section that will allow you to use your own domain as the special tracking URL instead of a hyperTracker URL. Full information is contained further down the page for using the ht.php or ht.pl file on your website.
Step 2: Integration With Your Website
Now that your campaign is ready to be tracked, you need to insert a special snippet of HTML code if you wish to track an action or a sale resulting from the visitor going to your website. Here's how to do that...
Click on the "Integration" section button. After the page has loaded, go to "Create html code" (it should be the default page you see).
You'll be asked a series of questions that will apply to the campaign you've just created. First, you'll be asked whether to track the response as an action or a sale. If you want to track sales, then select "sales". If you wish to track an action (e.g. the download of a free trial product, subscribers to your ezine, etc.) then select "action".
Once you've completed and submitted the form, a few lines of HTML code will be shown on your screen. Copy this code and paste it into the confirmation page your visitor will see once they have completed the specific action.
Confused? Actually, it's pretty easy. For instance... if your website is set to direct new orders to yourdomain.com/thankyou.html then simply copy and paste the code into the thankyou.html file and it will be tracked as a sale.
Or maybe every user who subscribes to your ezine is sent to a page on your website called subscribed.html? In that case, simply paste the code onto that page and it will be tracked as an action.
The system tracks your visitor as a sale or action, determined by which you chose on the previous page. The code still remains the same, but the hyperTracker system will automatically identify between the two.
Here's how the integration system works:
Your website may offer a free product download. If you want to track the amount of people who downloaded the offer, you'd simply integrate it with one of your campaigns by following the instructions above and add the snippet of HTML code to your download page. Once someone visits that page, it'll trigger the tracker to increment the action counter by one.
On the other hand, you may wish to track sales. In that case, simply add the code to the "Thank you for your order" page on your website and it'll increment the sales counter by one. It's very simple to use and only has to be done once.
Step 3: Use Your Special Tracking URL
Now it's time to advertise in Bob's Wonderful Ezine. Usually, you'd simply advertise your http://www.yourdomain.com website directly. However, if you did this, how would you be able to effectively determine the response?
The answer is, you wouldn't. Remember that special tracking URL you were given? Now it's time to use it. Along with the advert you promote, list the special tracking URL given and let hyperTracker work it's magic!
Don't worry, it'll make absolutely no difference to your visitor. They'll be transported directly to your original website in a split second. The only difference is, they've been hyperTracked without knowing it!
Step 4: Keep an eye on the response!
The prospects start flowing so now it's time to keep tabs on the progress. You can do this at any time by logging into your hyperTracker control panel and clicking on the "Campaigns" button and then going to "Overview".
At a glance, you'll be able to see how all of your campaigns are progressing. If you want to get a full-screen statistical analysis for a particular campaign, simply click on the "stats" link next to the campaign description.
On the page you'll be taken to, you have the option of tracking a number of results. Full details are available on-screen and it's as simple as pointing and clicking to find the results you need.
Now you have a powerful tracking system on your site 24 hours a day, working directly with your website to track the effectiveness of your Internet marketing campaigns. It's fast, easy and works for you all the time!
How Does hyperTracker work?
Although the actual programming code that powers hyperTracker is complex, it's extremely easy to use with most of the work happening in the background.
For you, there are only two steps. When you create a new campaign, you'll be given a special tracking URL. Use it use in place of your existing URL. When you promote that particular URL and someone visits the cogs start turning in the background and that's when the magic works.
Your visitor will be instantly transported to your existing URL and their visit is recorded. They're tagged with a special cookie that recognizes if they've visited your website previously or if a sale has been generated.
The system is completely transparent to the user. In fact, they won't notice a difference at all! The magic works in the background automatically, without any intervention from either you or your visitor. It's 100% automated.
What Statistics Will hyperTracker Show?
Providing that you use the special HTML code on your order confirmation pages and use the tracking URL, hyperTracker will show:
Clicks - Unique Visitors
The unique number of people that have visited your webpage. A special cookie is stored in their browser to ensure that only the first visit is recorded. This provides you with a completely accurate set of unique visitor statistics.
Actions - Unique Actions
The total number of actions generated as a result of the visitors. This could be the total sales, total downloads made for a product you're offering (such as an ebook), total number of subscribers or any other action you want to track. Basically, it's anything you track after the initial visit.
Sales - Number of sales
The total number of sales generated from a particular campaign.
Sales Value - Total sales value
When you setup a new campaign, you are asked to enter the value of your product. The total sales value will be calculated as sales * sales value and will show the gross income produced as a direct result from a particular campaign.
Cost - Cost of campaign
For instance, a particular advertising campaign might have cost you $240. The system would display the total cost of the campaign (based on your input) and it will produce further statistics based on the results.
Profit - Gross profit from campaign
This is the total you grossed from a particular campaign. It is calculated by using the following formula: (total sales - campaign cost).
CPA - Cost per action
The system is capable of not only tracking sales but also anything you might describe as an "action". For instance, would you like to track the amount of unique ezine subscribers you generated from a campaign? Or maybe you'd like to track the amount of free trial downloads your website received?
By inserting a special snippet of HTML code in your confirmation pages (i.e. the page that is shown to the visitor after the action has taken place), hyperTracker will automatically count the cost of each action. It will do this using the following formula: campaign cost divided by the number of actions.
CPS - Cost per sale
The same as CPA, although the system calculates how much was spent to acquire each sale based on the following formula: campaign cost divided by the number of sales.
CPC - Cost per click
The price of each acquired visitor. This statistic enables you to determine how much each visitor, on average, is worth to you. With this information, you can tailor your marketing efforts around a definite number of targeted visitors for a definite price. The result is a definite profit being generated.
The formula to calculate this is: campaign cost divided by the number of visitors.
ROI - Return on Investment
This is a percent figure that shows your return on investment and is the overall deciding factor when comparing your markup costs (i.e. campaign costs) with the amount of profit generated. A 100% return on investment would mean that 100% of your campaign cost was returned with no profit being generated. Anything above 100% represents a profit gain. Likewise, anything below 100% represents a loss based on the campaign cost.
For instance, if the system shows 80%, it means that you lost 20% of your campaign cost and no profit was returned. If the system shows 500%, it means you generated a profit that was 5 times greater than your initial campaign cost.
The formula is calculated like this: ROI = (sales value / campaign cost) * 100.
C2A - Percentage of Clicks to Actions
Determines the percent of visitors that were then converted into actions. For instance, if you were tracking a free trial download of your product and the system showed 72% for C2A, it would mean that on average, out of every 100 people that visit your website, 72 of them will download your trial offer.
This calculates the total number of actions based on the total number of unique visitors. The formula is: C2A = (number of actions divided by the number of unique visitors) multiplied by 100.
C2S - Percentage of Clicks to Sales
The same as C2A, except this statistic represents the percent of unique visitors that were converted into sales. The formula is: C2S = (number of sales divided by the number of unique visitors) multiplied by 100.
Using hyperTracker -
The navigational system
We've made our control panel as simple to use as possible. It's literally a point and click interface that will enable you to control and track your advertising campaigns with the click of a mouse button.
To navigate your way easily around the control panel, we've split it into five sections each controlling a different part of hyperTracker.
Each section contains various subsections. The sections are:
Essentially, this controls all of the administrative functions aside from your campaigns and relates directly to the use of hyperTracker. The following subsections available in Your Account for you to click on:
This is essentially a "quick start, in a nutshell" guide to setting up a new campaign and integrating it into your account. It's a piece of cake to follow the instructions but we recommend that you read through the documentation beforehand to understand the whole system.
Contains account information relating to hyperTracker's usage. It will show the owner of the account, the type of account held, the payment plan (if applicable) and when your account will expire.
From time to time issues arise. You can check to see if there are any problems with your campaign such as "not found pages," this may be due to typographical errors, or not available campaign identifiers in this section.
If you need to update your account information with hyperTracker, you can do so through this subsection. Update your name, email address and website details or you can deactivate your account in real-time. The information you provide will be updated instantly.
This is the main control panel to use for adding new campaigns, analyzing existing campaign results and editing campaigns as well as deleting them.
Here is an "at a glance" list of all your campaigns with the most important statistics featured. If you want to delve deeper into a particular campaign, track results based on a particular date period, or just view a full-screen campaign analysis for a particular hyperTracker campaign, simply click on the "stats" link next to each campaign description.
Wanting to edit a campaign half way through promotion?
For instance, your website URL has changed and you want to update hyperTracker to send prospects to the right website? All you have to do is click on the "edit" link, type in the new information and click Save Changes.
If you want to delete a particular campaign altogether, just click on the "del" link and a confirmation page will ask you to confirm deletion.
Everything in the Overview section is point and click. What you see is what you get and it's straight forward, with instructions every step of the way. It makes it easy to track your campaigns effortlessly.
You can start a brand new campaign using this subsection. Full information on how to start a new campaign is given in our quick start guide (above). Once you have filled in the campaign form (details on each form field are clearly labeled), you will be given a series of URLs you can use for different purposes.
This is an alternative control panel to clicking on "Properties" next to the campaign you wish to edit. It serves the same purpose except it provides a drop-down box allowing you to instantly select which campaign you wish to edit.
If you want to track a particular action (i.e. download of a trial offer, subscribers to your ezines) or track a sale, then you must insert a snippet of HTML code into your confirmation pages (i.e. the page the user sees when the particular action has been completed).
This HTML code automatically triggers our system to track the action. The Integration section of the control panel provides you with the code necessary to make it work.
-- Create HTML Code
Fill out the form with the correct details. After you submit it, a portion of HTML code will be displayed on your screen. Copy and paste this code into your order/action confirmation HTML page. The system will begin to track every action given. You are given full instructions as you go.
-- Web Addresses
In this section you'll find a list of the special tracking URLs that have been set up in order to track your advertising campaigns. Use these in place of your existing URL(s) and the system will do the rest of the work for you.
What's more, you can track from your own domain too!
Simply download the ht.php or ht.pl file (a link to it is provided in the same section), place it in your own website directory, and providing that your web host accepts PHP files, it will automatically redirect visitors to the hyperTracker URL which will do the rest of the work for you.
This is the general documentation (the page you're reading now) and a general Frequently Asked Questions list. If your question isn't answered on any of the pages, please email firstname.lastname@example.org (professional version only) for help at any time.
